Existence verification
Cross-checks every reference against four independent databases. If a paper doesn't exist, you know before your reviewer does.
The only reference checker that detects AI-hallucinated citations using a local model — no third-party AI ever sees your references. Free for up to 200 checks a month.
What we check
Every check runs against authoritative public databases — no guessing, no black boxes, no third-party AI fees.
Cross-checks every reference against four independent databases. If a paper doesn't exist, you know before your reviewer does.
Runs Gemma 3 locally — no reference text ever reaches an external AI service. No per-check fees. Works offline once installed.
Flags retracted papers, issued corrections, errata, and expressions of concern. Checks live against Crossref and OpenAlex records.
Recovers missing DOIs from title, first author, and year. Accepts DOIs in any form: bare, prefixed "doi:", "DOI:", or full HTTPS URL.
Fills in missing PubMed and PubMed Central identifiers for biomedical references using NCBI E-utilities.
Detects your current citation style and auto-formats to Vancouver, APA 7, AMA, or Harvard on request.
Flags journals absent from DOAJ using publisher history and heuristic patterns. Warns editors; never silently blocks.
Issues a verifiable certificate with a public URL. Share INTCIT-2026-XXXXXX with editors as proof of reference integrity.
Two workflows, one platform
Whether you're submitting next week or reviewing this afternoon, IntegraCite fits into your existing process.
Drop in any submission's reference list and get an instant editorial report — with structured feedback tools built in.
The IntegraCite Certificate
42 references · Vancouver style · 15 May 2026, 14:32 UTC
Authors include the verification code in their cover letter. Editors visit the public URL and see exactly which checks were run, what was found, and when — without any login required.
Every certificate gets a stable URL at integracite.com/verify/. Paid-tier certificates never expire.
A SHA-256 hash of the reference list is embedded in every certificate. Swap references after certification and the hash won't match.
Each correction revision generates a new certificate. Editors can watch quality improve across submissions of the same manuscript.
Free certificates expire after 90 days — encouraging fresh checks on revised manuscripts. Paid certificates never expire.
Privacy first
IntegraCite's hallucination detection runs Gemma 3 locally — not on OpenAI, Anthropic, or any other third-party service. When self-hosted, your references never leave your machine. Cloud-hosted users have their references processed only on IntegraCite's own servers — never shared with any AI provider. Existence and retraction checks query only public databases using anonymised requests. No training on your data. No data resale.
Hallucination detection runs entirely on your server or machine. No reference text is ever sent to an external AI service.
No Anthropic, OpenAI, or Gemini API calls. Your monthly cost is fixed. 1,000 references costs the same as 10.
Crossref, OpenAlex, PubMed, arXiv, ORCID, DOAJ — all queries are anonymised. No personal data is transmitted.
Once Gemma 3 is downloaded, hallucination detection works with no internet connection at all.
